Folk music can be defined in many ways, but generally, it is music of the people or “folks,” passed down orally for generations. Folk songs are part of every culture. Even small regions have their own particular songs. These songs tell the stories, express the humor of ordinary people. We all sang folk songs in elementary school and reminders of our favorites will bring a smile. We learned folk dances, too, and dance goes hand-in-hand with this music. The ACC ends the season with a fun celebration of American folk music plus music and dance from around the world. Among our guest performers: St. Louis Osuwa Taiko, Missouri Country Cloggers, and Matt Henry and Tom Zirkle, percussion. |
